RenewIT releases energy efficient Virtual Machine Manager (VMM)

On June 30th, the RenewIT project released the Virtual Machine Manager (VMM), a Cloud computing resources manager that integrates energy efficiency metrics as a core objective.
The VMM uses virtualization technologies to decide at deployment and run time the best allocation of Cloud applications in order to provide a consolidated distribution of tasks that minimise the number of used hosts while providing the Quality of Service that is requested by the Data Center users.
It is able to migrate virtual machines at runtime (transparently, without stopping their contained applications) in order to keep an optimised status of the system in terms of energy consumption and application-level performance metrics.
The VMM also considers the availability profiles of renewable energy sources to allocate tasks in the time slots where there is higher availability of renewable energy.
