Smart City Cluster presented at Datacentre Transformation Summit
July 15, 2015
RenewIT was one of the projects presented at the Datacentre Transformation Summit in Manchester on 14th July.
The project was featured as part of a presentation on the Smart City Cluster at the one day event which featured attendees from a variety of different data centre related activities including owner/operators, technology suppliers as well as academics and researches.
The session, presented by Vasiliki Georgiadou, project manager/researcher, Green IT Amsterdam and representative of the GEYSER project, provided an overview of the main activities of the cluster which consists of six current, and two recent EC research projects.
A core focus of the Cluster is to develop new and existing metrics for environmental efficiency. This will enable the Cluster to measure variables in common, compare results, and collectively support the development of standards.
These projects were all created from a call issued as part of the European Commission’s Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development (FP7). Call ICT-2013.6.2, “Data Centres in an energy-efficient and environmentally friendly Internet“, was part of the EC’s Smart Cities research funding. The Cluster also includes two earlier projects, All4Green and CoolEmAll. Together, the projects include over 50 partners.
At a workshop in Brussels on 10th September 2014, the cluster released a document with the proposed new metrics. This document can be found here.
